Many tech fans are interested in Huawei’s plans for 2021 for various reasons, with one being the uncertainties surrounding its smartphone business due to US sanctions. However, the company already confirmed that the Huawei Mate X2 is slated to launch in the coming weeks.
Huawei Mate X2 release date set for February
After appearing in several online leaks, the Huawei Mate X2 made its first partial appearance on its official Weibo page. Huawei has released a teaser poster for its next foldable smartphone with the announcement of its launch date on Feb. 22.
The Huawei Mate X series has been announced in February since the product line launched in 2019. Seeing that the company is not changing that this year despite the limitations it currently faces is a good sign. However, it is also worth noting that the teaser poster being only shared via Weibo hints that launch could be limited to the Chinese market. But the Huawei Mate X devices have been made available globally, so it is also something to anticipate from the company this year.
Huawei Mate X2 design, specs: What to expect
The official teaser poster did not include the full image of the Huawei Mate X2 for obvious reasons. However, the foldable smartphone’s design may have also been revealed through a post of a prolific Weibo leaker, Digital Chat Station.
Both the leak and the official teaser poster from Huawei hint at the Huawei Mate X2 becoming the first device in its line to fold inward like its rival Samsung Galaxy Fold. This would mean that, technically, the Mate X2 has two displays -- a smaller external screen when the device is folded and the much bigger main screen when it is unfolded.
Huawei fans should not worry about anything that will obstruct their view when watching full-screen media content. Digital Chat Station reported that the internal screen does not have any camera hole or notch, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It is unclear if the inner screen will have any sensors, such as an under-display camera.
Selfie cameras appear on the external screen. The same source claimed that it is composed of dual 16-megapixel sensors.
