The first look at the Huawei P50 Pro may have already been released in the wild, thanks to a new leak from a reputable source. The image suggests tech fans should expect one design aspect to change in 2021 for Huawei’s next premium flagship smartphone.
Huawei P50 design: What’s about to change and what will remain
Despite a tumultuous 2020 with new US sanctions, Huawei’s high-end products are still some of the most anticipated smartphones this new year. And the rumor mill suggests the Chinese tech company is proceeding with the development of its 2021 products as one of the first design leaks for the Huawei P50 series appeared online recently.
Notable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks, shared an image render of supposedly for the Huawei P50 Pro model on Voice. The leak only shows the front side of the upcoming device, and it suggests that the display will carry over some of the familiar design aspects of the P40 series last year.
From the image render alone, tech fans can easily spot that the side curves are here to stay. If one would look closer, they would also find that the bezels appear as thin as the Huawei P50 predecessor.
The top segment of the display is where the major change can be spotted on the rumored Huawei P50 design. It sports a single hole punch for the selfie camera, which is quite the modification from the P40 series that featured dual front-facing sensors. Instead of placing the camera on the side of the screen, the Huawei P50 leak also shows it would be located in the middle, like in the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. Since the leaked render reportedly corresponds to the Huawei P50 Pro design, the single front-facing camera is likely a standard feature for the entire series.
In terms of screen size and dimensions, the report suggests the Huawei P50 Pro will have similar figures as the P40 Pro. It is expected to launch with a 6.6-inch display in a 159mm x 73mm body.
Huawei P50 release date in 2021
Huawei usually announces its newest premium smartphone series within the first half of the year. New P series devices have been launch in either March or April, except for the P10 lineup that was announced in February 2017. So in estimating when the Huawei P50 would be launched, the most likely timeline would be in spring 2021.
