Genesis Motor LLC, the luxury vehicle manufacturing division of the Hyundai Motor Group, announced it has teamed up with the 79-year-old Formula 1 legend Jacky Ickx. The Iconic figure in the international racing scene has been named an official partner of the Genesis brand.
Genesis Motor said on Thursday, Feb. 8, that Ickx had joined the company. While the news was only shared today, the partnership signing ceremony between the company and the racing champ was held on Feb. 2 at Genesis Studio Geneva.
Illustrious Racing Career
As per The Korea Economic Daily, the Belgian F1 racing driver won the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times. He also achieved eight wins and has 25 podium finishes under his belt. Jacky Ickx participated in several World Championships and World Sports Car Championships. He also won the 1979 Can-Am Championship and Paris–Dakar Rally in 1983.
He drove various cars, including Ford, Ferrari, and Porche, in his 20-year career in racing. He made a name after collecting 37 major wins in world racing championships. For his victories at the Le Mans, Ickx earned the moniker “Monsieur Le Mans,” Fortune Korea reported.
Ickx’s Role as Brand Partner
As Ickx takes on a role as an advisor at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center, he will work closely with the company’s chief design and chief creative officer, Luc Donckerwolke. Moreover, he will have a three-fold role as a Genesis Brand Partner, expected to provide strategic insights and act as a respected diplomat for the brand in the luxury space while promoting Genesis as an ambassador.
“We are delighted with this unique partnership with Jacky Ickx. With his phenomenal achievements, invaluable knowledge and desire to influence the revolution of the automotive landscape, Jacky aligns perfectly with our brand values,” Donckerwolke said in a press release. “As a prominent figure who has been consistently ingrained throughout the evolving landscape over the years, it is an honor to have Jacky on board to help shape the future of the Genesis.”
Jacky Ickx also said, “I want to live in the future, move on from the past, reinvent, move forward. I have always admired Genesis for its cultured elegance and design aesthetics and sincerely believe in a relationship that is founded on authenticity and admiration for each other.”
