RALEIGH, N.C., May 04, 2017 -- INC Research Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:INCR), a leading, global Phase I to IV contract research organization, together with the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging the public and patients as partners in the clinical research process, today announced that they are marking Clinical Trials Awareness Week, May 1 – 5, 2017, with the release of a new animation to share a behind-the-scenes-look at how new medicines get to market and ultimately into the hands of the patients who need them. This initiative builds on the long-term partnership the two organizations have entered into to build increased awareness of the value of clinical trials in bringing new medicines to market.
“This animation was a natural progression following our collaboration last year with CISCRP on the “Inspiring Hope” Ideathon, a ground-breaking event aimed at generating unique and effective ideas that raise awareness of clinical trials and study participation,” said Clare Grace, PhD, Vice President, Site and Patient Access, INC Research. “There is a critical need for a better understanding of what clinical trials are and why they are vital to the health and well-being of patients around the world, and this animation addresses those issues. We’re excited to provide this important tool to clinical research sites and others interested in joining with us to build awareness.”
The educational animation will be provided to clinical research sites, advocacy groups and organizations that support clinical trials awareness – including pharma and tech companies – who will in turn share the animation with their networks. In addition the animation was featured as part of a May 3 webinar entitled, “The Future of the Clinical Trial: Collaboration and Patient Centricity,” which explores the challenges and solutions of the current research environment; how collaboration can benefit research participation; and the vital role the patient advocate plays in these matters.
“CISCRP is very pleased and grateful to have collaborated with INC on the development and release of this new animation,” added Ken Getz, CISCRP’s Founder and Board Chair. “Together, we believe that education about the clinical research process and the role of clinical trial volunteers needs to be communicated in a variety of formats customized to the diversity of learning styles.”
Clinical Trials Awareness Week is designed to shine a spotlight on how the clinical trials process helps deliver safe, effective medicines to patients. Each year, hundreds of thousands of clinical trials are ongoing or underway. In the first four months of 2017 alone, the number of clinical studies registered has already surpassed the total number registered in 2016, according to Clinicaltrials.gov.
Despite the significant breadth and depth of clinical research underway across the globe, many people don’t know the important, life-saving impact these studies have on patients every day. To help raise awareness about clinical trials, INC Research and its employees are participating in #CTAW2017, a week-long slate of activities designed to engage people in the clinical trials process. The Company has organized the “Gold Circle Selfie” campaign, which encourages those with social media accounts to visit the Twibbon.com website, where they can create a custom INC Research selfie to share in support of Clinical Trials Awareness Week.
