Online shopping through social media has been a growing trend, and Instagram has been one of the most successful at it. Now, the Facebook-owned social network is expanding the feature to its Stories platform. Users will basically start seeing stickers in the shape of shopping bags, which will then allow them to see details on products.
In a blog post, Instagram provided more details with regards to the new feature and what users can expect from it. However, those who have been shopping via the social network shouldn’t find the information given to be too surprising.
“On Instagram Stories, when you see a sticker with a shopping bag icon tap on it to see more details about that product,” the post reads. “From Adidas and Aritzia to Louis Vuitton, people have been able to shop from their favorite brands around the world, and now you can shop these businesses in Instagram Stories.”
It would seem that the shopping feature on Instagram has also been a huge hit. According to the social network, around 300 million users are on Instagram Stories right now. Apparently, a huge number of those users keep track of their favorite brands using the platform. This makes adding the shopping feature on Stories a sensible business move that could drive more revenue, TechCrunch notes.
Not all users are likely to use this particular feature of Instagram Stories, but they really don’t have to. If only a sizeable chunk of the total number of users on the platform makes use of the service, it will still be a success.
It’s inevitable that some users won’t understand what the engagement around certain brands is all about. However, it would appear that there are many users who do, especially regarding well-crafted products. This has been the main driving force of success behind the service since it launched in 2016.
