Jada Pinkett Smith shocked everyone when she revealed in her new memoir, "Worthy," that she has been separated from her husband, Will Smith, for seven years. Though not together, the "Red Table Talk" host clarified that divorce is not an option for them.
Jada Pinkett Smith Is Feeling Free These Days
"It's a weight off my shoulders, honestly. Ever since the Oscars, it's so interesting how such an intense event can bring you closer together, and I would say that after that, we really dove in and dug in and got to this beautiful place we are now," Jada stated, per Fox 8.
The mom of two, who first disclosed the shocking news to NBC's Hoda Kotb last week, shared about her munch-talked-about marriage throughout the biography. Most, if not all, fans are aware that Jada and Will have battled accusations of an open marriage, a swinging lifestyle and speculations about their sexual orientations over the years.
Despite this, the couple laughed off the rumors and presumably portrayed a picture-perfect life. Jada also divulged that she initially considered abandoning the project, especially after Will notoriously smacked Chris Rock during the Oscars for making a joke about her shaved head.
"The only time I reconsidered possibly was after the Oscars…because I was like I can't write a book and not talk about this piece. It took me a while to figure that out," Jada shared to The Associated Press (via The Detroit News), confessing that she thought she was being used as a scapegoat for Will's faux pas.
Are Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith Divorcing?
Though their marriage dynamic may perplex some, Jada and Will are technically still married but have been living different lives for years, with divorce being out of the question. The "Girls Trip" actress said they are working toward a resolution.
"We love each other…we are figuring out right now as we speak, what that looks like for us. But there's no being separated. There's no, 'we're going to get divorced. I'm not giving up on that dude. And he's not giving up on me… So, let's just stop and let's get to this deep healing and figure this out," Jada said.
Besides her marriage, Jada intimately explores everything from childhood lessons acquired in her grandmom's garden to navigating being the child of drug addicts and tales of peddling drugs as a teen and the ramifications that followed in her memoir. The "Collateral" star also admits to contemplating suicide while suffering from depression during a midlife crisis after age 40.
