Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are starring in new movies; however, they will not be together as these are separate projects. The former has been tapped to star alongside Melissa Barrera in the classic musical titled “Carmen” while the latter has signed up to join the cast of the comedy film “Covers.”
Jamie and Dakota became well-known worldwide after appearing on the “Fifty Shades” trilogy movies. However, when the last installment of the EL James’ novel-based erotic movies was released, the two have not collaborated for a new project. Apparently, until now, they continue to make separate movies, but it is still good as they get to explore more role options.
According to NBC News, Jamie Dornan has been chosen as the lead actor in “Carmen” after Sony Pictures bought the rights to produce its film version. It was said that this project is a reimagining of the classic French opera that will be directed by the French choreographer Benjamin Millepied. This will be his directorial debut, and Dimitri Rassam will serve as the producer.
Dakota Johnson’s “Fifty Shades” leading man is expected to begin filming in October, and it will take place in Los Angeles. Jamie will play Aidan in “Carmen,” and he is a soldier who abandoned his military duties and first love after being seduced by a gypsy.
On the other hand, Dakota will act alongside Tracee Ellis Ross in a comedy film that was mentioned earlier. It will be directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Flora Greeson for Focus Features. The movie is set to be distributed across the U.S. and overseas.
Dakota Johnson’s role in “Cover” is far from her Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades” with Jamie Dornan. This is a feel-good movie that will, for the first time, highlight the actress’ comedic talent.
“Together Dakota and Tracee are an undeniable force of comedic talent, and along with our friends at Working Title and our director Nisha, we can’t wait to see them go head to head on this new project,” Peter Kujawski, chairman of Focus Features company told Variety.
