House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has officially endorsed Joe Biden for president on Monday, April 27. Pelosi joins the ranks of high-profile Democrats that include former President Barack Obama and Senator Elizabeth Warren who have expressed their support for the party’s presumptive nominee.
“Today, I am proud to endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States because he will be an extraordinary President,” Nancy Pelosi said on a video, CNN reported. “He knows how to get the job done.”
Pelosi posted the clip showing her endorsement of Biden on her Twitter account. “@JoeBiden has fought for our health care, for our families & for our children’s future,” she captioned the video. “To his work, Joe brings values & integrity. He is a voice of reason & resilience who will fight #ForThePeople. Today, I am proud to endorse him for President of the United States. –NP”
Pelosi described Biden as a battle-tested leader ready to fight for the public’s interest. “Joe Biden brings values and integrity to work every day because he never forgets his roots,” she said, according to Fox News. “Now more than ever we need a forward-looking, battle-tested leader who will fight for the people.”
Pelosi pointed out that Biden is supportive of granting Americans affordable yet quality health care with his work on the Affordable Care Act and Cancer Moonshot program. “And as we face coronavirus, Joe has been a voice of reason and resilience with a clear path to lead us out of this crisis,” she explained. “For these and other reasons, I am proud to endorse Joe Biden for President, a leader who is the personification of hope and courage, values authenticity and integrity.”
Joe Biden later retweeted Pelosi’s message. “I'm incredibly honored by @SpeakerPelosi's endorsement and grateful for her historic leadership in Congress,” he said. “Together, we helped pass Obamacare, and together we can not only bring this country back from the brink from this current crisis but transform it.”
Earlier this month, Joe Biden was also formally endorsed by Barack Obama, his former boss. “The kind of leadership that's guided by knowledge and experience, honesty and humility, empathy and grace -- that kind of leadership doesn't just belong in our state capitols and mayors’ offices,” Obama said, CNN reported. “It belongs in the White House. And that's why I'm so proud to endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States.”
