Americans are gearing up for a presidential race between President Donald Trump and former vice president Joe Biden this November. Biden revealed during a recent town hall that he would not give Trump a pardon for any possible crimes he may have committed or will commit should he win the election.
At the recent virtual town hall at MSNBC, Biden was asked that if he was elected if he could commit to avoid pardoning Trump as former President Gerald Ford had done to Richard Nixon back in 1974 following the Watergate scandal. The former vice president said yes. “It’s hands-off completely. Look, the attorney general of the United States is not the president’s lawyer. It’s the people’s lawyer,” responded Biden.
Throughout the years even before being inaugurated as President, Trump was already under legal fire, from accepting money from foreign governments through his Washington hotel to his complicity in tax schemes as well as his involvement in the hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels while running for the presidency in 2016. These instances have since implicated him in the trial made against his former attorney. At the same time, he has also drawn criticism from the Democrats in Congress and former authorities for manipulating the Department of Justice to further his own political agenda and interests.
Biden has also referenced the most recent instance involving the DOJ’s plans to drop the charges made against Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty for lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia in his pledge. The former vice president criticized Trump for the “prostitution” of the presidency and called Trump’s constant interventions a “dereliction of duty.”
At the same time, CNN reports that the former vice president maintains a lead in state polls. A poll from the Marquette Law School reveals that Biden leads Trump by three points, 46 to 43 percent in Wisconsin. This new poll matches the previous poll by the school, showing the former vice president leading by three points in the same state. The results from polls in states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania have also been in favor of Biden by over five points against Trump, including polls from very competitive states.
