As Joe Biden’s campaign is gaining momentum, one of the most important questions that are yet to be answered is who he will pick as his running mate. In a recent interview, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said that former First Lady Michelle Obama would be a strong VP if she accepts the nomination.
“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” Biden told KDKA’s Jon Delano on Monday, CBS Pittsburg reported. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends.”
The problem is that Michelle Obama has not expressed any interest in entering into public office. “I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again,” Biden added.
Joe Biden has not yet chosen anyone for his running mate but his team is already in the process of vetting out potential candidates. “In terms of who to pick, we’re just beginning the process,” Biden told Delano. “We’ll shortly name the committee to review this and begin to look through the backgrounds of the various potential nominees. And that’s just getting underway.”
Previously, there were talks that Biden might choose a woman of color as his running mate. In his KDKA talk, however, he said he can only commit that he will choose a woman as his Vice President.
“I’ll commit to that be a woman because it is very important that my administration look like the public, look like the nation,” Biden said. “And there will be, committed that there will be a woman of color on the Supreme Court, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a vice president, as well.”
“I think it’s really important now that we establish once and for all, we should have had a woman president already, in Hilary (Clinton), in my view,” Biden said. “There are a number of qualified women out there.”
There are many good potential running mates for Biden. But Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who recently officially endorsed Biden, stands out from the rest as “she fulfills several key criteria that Biden will need from a running mate to help him win,” according to CNN.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren has shown her ability to keep big promises, which could be a big factor in the election as voters look for someone they can trust. The publication also wrote that “Warren has one of the best chances of mobilizing progressives within the party.” In addition, she also possesses media sophistication and is adept at using social media as well as in generating media attention.
