The blockbuster hit “Just Cause 3” is set to release its latest downloadable content on June 10 for $11.99, and it involves riding around giant mechanical robots. Dubbed “Mech Land Assault,” a press release from “Avalanche Studio” states that the DLC will take game protagonist “Rico” to an island called Lacrima where he will need to face off against new enemies in the form of mechs. In true “Just Cause” fashion, players can take control of the mechs and wreak havoc with them through metal fists, cannons, and a physics-defying gravity gun.
“Just Cause” is a rarity among video games in that it blends a serious plot line while providing players with a ridiculous system to achieve their goals. The game does not pretend to be anything more than a fun, explosive form of entertainment, and it succeeds at conveying this impression. This latest DLC continues that premise, and after the previous feature called "Sky Fortress,” the trend of over-the-top goofiness is kept fresh.
VentureBeat recently spoke to Tobias Anderson, the senior producer behind the DLC to talk about “Mech Land Assault.” When he was asked where they got inspiration for the mechanics of this expansion, Anderson credited the action of players.
“We had the idea of a mech in the making, a very advanced vehicle,” he said. “We developed that as well. But when we combined that with the players’ creativity, we got this one machine. Go anywhere, be very strong, and also have this gravity arm that can pick up things and throw them and all the other crazy stuff.
Anderson also reiterated how non-serious the game is, which is why the mechs fit so well with the game. The DLC offers a new storyline that last for 4 to 5 hours though, so players can expect a fresh experience.
