Kate Middleton and Prince William dated for nine years before they got engaged. Before the Duke of Cambridge popped the question, the couple split at least twice.
Royal experts revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t pleased with how long she had to wait before Prince William proposed to her. But now that the royal couple has been married for almost nine years, it seems that she has already moved on from the incident.
During her visit to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital this week, one parent spoke with Middleton about their biggest similarity. Sarah Ibendahl said that just like the future queen, it also took her husband nine years before he proposed to her. Upon hearing the parent’s story, the Duchess of Cambridge couldn’t help but smile.
“We bonded over the fact that it took our husbands like nine years before they asked us to marry them. When I mentioned it, she laughed politely and gave a knowing smile,” Ibendahl said.
Meanwhile, Prince William has a valid reason for delaying his engagement with Middleton. In the book “William and Catherine,” royal author Andrew Morton revealed that the future king was tempted by the single life.
Since he had been in a four-year relationship with Middleton in 2007, Prince William decided that it was time to explore his other options. Prince George’s mom has expressed her desire to settle down with Prince William, but the latter wasn’t sure if this was what he really wanted.
“There was an emotional conflict. While Kate had made it clear that she wanted a commitment from her man, Prince William, according to close friends, was not sure. Siren voices were calling suggesting that the grass was greener on the other side of the fence,” Morton wrote.
Before their split, Middleton reportedly had complaints about how Prince William treated her. She felt that she was more of his servant than his girlfriend. As such, she agreed to call it quits.
But just months later, Prince William had a change of heart and he decided to get back together with Middleton. Three years later, they got engaged.
