Kia is a Korean automobile manufacturer that has produced sedans, SUVs, and MPVs. And with the auto industry slowly turning electric, it has created such models as well.
Kia is the maker of EV6, the company’s latest battery-electric compact crossover SUV that was launched in March 2021. This model is the first Kia dedicated EV and the first to be developed on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that is similar to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5.
Now, Kia proved that its EV6 model was created perfectly after it was awarded the 2022 European Car of the Year (COTY). According to The Korea Times, the all-new Kia EV6 received the prestigious award after gaining the votes of 61 judges who are respected motor journalists from 23 countries in Europe.
It was reported that Kia EV6 was pitted against a list of impressive electric vehicles from major companies. The other candidates include the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Renault Megane E-Tech, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Peugeot 308, Skoda Enyaq iV, and Cupra Born.
Originally, the Kia EV6 was only listed for consideration for the top award, along with 60 other car models that were released last year. In November 2021, the car was included in the shortlist with six other models, and out of seven, six of the candidates were all EVs.
“It is a great honour to have won the 2022 European Car of the Year with the EV6, the first-ever Kia to win this prestigious award,” Kia Europe president, Jason Jeong, said in a press release. “The EV6 is truly a landmark development that’s been designed from the outset to make electric mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a spacious high-tech interior, and a truly rewarding driving experience. The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our evolving electrified line-up.”
Finally, the 2022 European Car of the Year award is just one of the newest awards that Kia EV6 has received so far since it was introduced last year. The Kia car model was already bestowed with these titles: 2022 Irish Car of the Year, TopGear’s 2021 Crossover of the Year, one of the 2022 German Car of the Year’s top winner, and awardee at the first Best Cars of the Year awards for 2021/2022.
