The production of the “Kingdom” anime series was one of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While other shows have now returned to their regular broadcast schedules, it was recently confirmed that fans will have to wait until next year for “Kingdom” season 3, episode 5.
‘Kingdom’ season 3, episode 5 release date moved to Spring 2021
The current season of the anime series premiered last April, with its first four episodes had aired without delays. That changed when the show joined other productions in halting its operations to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines in Japan before “Kingdom” season 3, episode 5 is released.
What was different from the case of “Kingdom” was that the continuation of its broadcast remained in limbo even after Japan’s declaration of a state of emergency due to COVID-19 was lifted. It even led to some fans speculating on the fate of the series and the likelihood of it getting canceled.
Fortunately, that will not be the case as “Kingdom” season 3, episode 5 is confirmed to be released. The only caveat is that fans will have to wait until next year to see what happens next.
The news about the “Kingdom” season 3 episode 5 release date was announced earlier this week through the show’s official website and Twitter page. A specific schedule was not yet provided, only that the resumption of the broadcast will take place in the spring – that usually means sometime between April through early June.
The producers did not go into detail about why they are taking an entire year before releasing “Kingdom” season 3, episode 5. However, the official announcement stated that preventing the spread of COVID-19 among its production staff remains one of their priorities.
‘Kingdom’ manga sells 5.6 million copies from December 2019 to last August
The continuation of “Kingdom” season 3 was not a complete shock, especially considering how its original manga series continues to be one of the most popular titles in Japan. Oricon recently released the list of best-selling manga from Dec. 30, 2019, to last Aug. 30 and Yasuhisa Hara’s historical fiction landed in the top 2 spot of the list. It follows “Kimetsu no Yaiba” with a very dominating lead after reportedly selling 53.7 million copies while “Kingdom” had sold 5.6 million copies.
