Lady Gaga is set to embark on a world tour. Following her show-stopping performance at the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, the “Million Reasons” singer announced that she will go on a worldwide tour in support of her fifth studio album, “Joanne,” E! Online reports.
According to her Twitter announcement, she will begin on tour on August 1 at Rogers Arena, Vancouver, BC. Her tour will also take her to Washington, California, Las Vegas, Omaha, Minnesota, Brazil, Spain, Zurich, Italy, and Hamburg. She intends to wrap up her tour on September 29. Tickets will be on sale starting February 13.
The announcement came at the heels of her solo performance at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show. The Telegraph describes it as a “gymnastic” set, starting from her singing a few bars of “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful,” and “This Land is Your Land” to her jumping off Houston’s NRG Stadium and singing through some of her greatest hits with a large troupe of dancers and singers. She later ended her 13-minute set by dropping her microphone, and jumping off a set of stairs while catching a football in mid-air.
On the other hand, several reports are saying that Lady Gaga’s performance was political “just below the surface.” USA Today said Lady Gaga singing “This Land is Your Land” might as well be her sign of solidarity, as the Woody Guthrie tune is quite popular in protests against president-elect Donald Trump. She also sang her hit “Born This Way,” which was a clear ode to inclusiveness.
Prior to her Super Bowl performance, Gaga herself said she will be weaving statements through her music. She explained, “The only statements that’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I have been consistently making throughout my career. I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality and the spirit of this country. It’s one of love and compassion and kindness. So my performance will uphold those philosophies.”
