“Lucifer” season 4 is most likely to continue exploring the relationship of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). However, for them to actually be together, Ellis thinks that there needs to be a “resolution” to the entire storyline.
Like many stars from other popular TV shows, Ellis was also present at this month’s San Diego Comic-Con. In his various interviews, Ellis talked a lot about “Lucifer” season 4 being saved by Netflix and about tidbits of possible events in the upcoming installment.
As expected, one of the frequently asked topics was about Lucifer’s budding romance with Chloe. The connection between the characters is not a secret. However, the storytelling of the show has yet to fully immerse in the prospect of Lucifer and Chloe being together in a romantic relationship. And, unfortunately, it is also not clear whether this is something that “Lucifer” season 4 will be focusing on.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (via Hidden Remote), Tom Ellis said, "I think it’s the heartbeat of the show, Chloe and Lucifer’s relationship.” However, the actor thinks getting these character together romantically in “Lucifer” season 4 would not be a wise move.
“When you get the characters together, ultimately that’s kind of resolution,” Ellis further explained. “And you don’t want resolution till the very, very end.”
“Lucifer” season 4 could have ended up in limbo after Fox axed the show in May. Luckily for its fans, Netflix chimed in to save the series. But one of the big changes to happen in the franchise due to the network transfer is having much fewer episodes.
Instead of the typical 22 episodes with Fox, Netflix ordered only 10 episodes, which Ellis thinks is a positive change for “Lucifer” season 4. The actor explained that it would compel them to “get right down to the storytelling.”
Meanwhile, Ellis was also not able to dish out some plot details while at the SDCC simply because he has not received any script yet for “Lucifer” season 4. But he reportedly confirmed that they will begin filming next month, which would mean the show’s Netflix debut will happen in 2019.
