“Fear Factor” will be coming to the small screen soon, thanks to MTV.
According to Variety, the Viacom cabler has ordered a new set of episodes for the reality competition from Endemol Shine North America. Fans and new generation viewers will soon see contestants battle out for the top prize by taking part in extreme physical and mental trials. “Fear Factor” is expected to premiere on Tuesday, May 30.
The show, which will follow the Dutch format, originally aired on NBC from 2001 to 2006. Deadline said the series gained a following not just for its format, but also because of the challenges’ themes that tend to be extremely “gross” for reality TV. In 2011, NBC revived “Fear Factor as a series of specials.
The MTV revival will have rapper Ludacris joining the series as a host and as an executive producer, The Hollywood Reporter said.
MTV, VH1 and Logo president Chris McCarthy said, “MTV is about celebrating youth culture, and with the reinvented “Fear Factor,” we are putting the power in our audience’s hands to face and overcome their biggest fears. We are thrilled to partner with Ludacris, one of the biggest global stars who has a rich history with MTV, to energize this franchise for a whole new generation.”
Original exec producers Anthony Carbone and Kevin Wehrenberg will also be returning to the series and will serve in the same capacity. Charles Wachter (American Gladiators), Rob Smith and Robin Feinberg for Endemol will join, and MTV head of unscripted Nina L. Diaz will be coming in on board alongside Pamela Post and Tim Palazzola to oversee the show.
