Reviews for the MacBook Air 2018 are coming in and most critics are painting a rosy picture for Apple. However, a running theme among most of the reviews covering the gadget seems to agree that the upgrade was more out of necessity than it was an inspiration for innovation. As such, the MacBook Air 2018 does not completely feel like a great accomplishment.
A compilation of reviews from multiple publications is featured over at Business Insider where it’s noted how the MacBook Air 2018 seems more like a necessary upgrade than anything else. That is to say, compared to Apple’s past products that pushed the boundaries of tech innovation, this new unit seems almost dull and ordinary. It features more power and a modern design, but only to the extent where they are expected.
The MacBook Air 2018 certainly does come with more muscle compared to its predecessor thanks to the Intel Core i5 1.6 GHz processor that it sports. As a result, reviewers are recommending the unit to those who are considering upgrading to a new MacBook that can handle most modern uses. The retina display was also lavished with praises for offering clear and crisp images.
On that note, there have been some disagreements among publication with regards to other aspects of the MacBook Air 2018. There are those who seem to harbor a strong dislike for the unit’s keyboard while other reviews note improvements once the user has gotten used to the design. The battery appears to have gotten a fair amount of TLC, as well, providing users with more usage time.
By the end of the reviews, it was generally agreed upon by the critics that the MacBook Air 2018 is the best laptop in Apple’s lineup right now. However, it simply fails to reach that tipping point that would have made it great. At least its batteries can be replaced now, Trusted Reviews notes, so that’s nice for a $1,200 unit.
