MacBook Air 2018 will hit the shelves on Nov. 7 and longtime fans of the subnotebook have several reasons to celebrate the upcoming release. Although the MacBook Air has been among those Apple lineups that have been ignored by the company for years, it has now breathed new life into the beloved subnotebook, Ars Technica reported.
The MacBook Air 2018 has been outfitted with hardware that’s been heavily requested by the userbase. For starters, Apple has given the subnotebook a Retina display that has a 2560x1600 native resolution. The display has always been one of the major factors that caused the popularity decline of the upcoming Air’s predecessor.
"I think the screen is the thing that most people have the biggest issue with," said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD. "I think that's clearly something that, within the parameters of under $1,000, they can get a full-HD screen without impacting the overall price too much. Certainly, there are Windows-equivalent products out there with a better screen than the MacBook Air has." However, this improvement literally came at a heavy cost as the MacBook Air 2018 is priced above the expected range.
Users were hoping that this iteration of the Air will be below $1,000 but it seems the enhancements will not allow such a price to exist for it. However, it may very well be worth it since Apple also improved the MacBook Air 2018 on several other fronts.
The new version is now running on the eighth-gen Intel Core i5 CPU and contains 16GB worth of RAM, twice the memory of its predecessor. What’s more, the MacBook Air 2018 also has a whopping 1.5TB storage space that is a far cry from the previous version.
Battery life has also been enhanced as the MacBook Air 2018 will supposedly last for 12 hours on a single charge, a welcome change for consumers. The subnotebook is ready for pre-orders now at two prices, depending on the version that a consumer will purchase, with the base model currently for sale at $1,199.
