Mazda has joined BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, and Renault as part of the 120 firm consortia in the MOBI blockchain alliance.
According to Nikkei, a key motivation for Mazda is its plans for electric vehicles (EVs) to account for 25 percent of sales by 2030.
MOBI's multiple efforts, such as the MOBI Battery Initiative, which looks into providing a unique passport to each EV battery, are relevant to EVs.
This would make it possible to query a battery's whole history, which is crucial for recycling. Another application would be if batteries could be swapped, which would alleviate the long recharging times, particularly in transportation. This type of solution might be possible with a battery passport.
MOBI's working group on integrating electric vehicles into the grid is a second EV endeavor. The battery potential of an electric car parked in the driveway is not fully utilized. If the homeowner has solar panels, the excess energy might be stored in the car's battery and sold when demand is higher.
Tracking carbon emissions from travels, linked vehicles and data sharing, vehicle identity, car financing, and insurance, and supply chain norms are all MOBI activities.
