Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been branded “ridiculous” as their lives provide entertainment for the general public, writer-broadcaster Esther Krakue said. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been mocked for their fame after signing multi-million dollar contracts to write about their personal lives.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s Lives Tagged As ‘Ridiculous’
Since stepping aside from royal duties in 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been routinely criticized in American cartoons such as “South Park” and, most recently, “Family Guy.” While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a five-year, £76 million ($100 million) contract with Netflix to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children's programming, they have so far only published a docuseries.
"I think their life has been so ridiculous. Obviously being members of the Royal Family, anything to do with them is big news but it's the sensationalist way that they left the Royal Family,” Esther Krakue told Sky News Australia.
"They have been crying for privacy and have done everything against actually getting their privacy, signing multimillion-dollar deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify. It's just the embodiment of being famous for nothing, they're kind of like the Kardashians of the Royal Family, and it's entertaining to watch,” she went on.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Likened to the Kardashians
Esther Krakue’s comments came after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were compared to the Kardashian-Jenner clan by American blogger and columnist Perez Hilton, who advised the royal couple on how to generate more money. Perez stated that the pair is not seen as "royal" in the United States and that they must "play the fame game" in order to make any money.
"They are big celebrities here but that's the thing that they are, they're not royals to us and they need to cultivate their celebrity,” Perez Hilton told GB News. “In a way, the Sussexes are kind of like the Kardashians here, they're famous because of their names but they haven't really done much of note yet. They need to play the fame game because at the end of the day it's all about money. The more famous they are the more money they can make,” he furthered.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have recently expressed concern "about their celebrity status" after being mocked on a cartoon comedy show. According to royal analyst Neil Sean, the show demonstrates how far the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have fallen since stepping away from royal duties two years ago.
"Harry and Meghan should and will be very concerned about their celebrity status in America. After being royally laughed at by the satirical cartoon, it shows really how far they have fallen,” Neil said in an article for Fox News.
