All throughout history, women were not given the right to vote and choose who they would want to see lead a country, until 100 years ago. To celebrate the special occasion, first lady Melania Trump will launch a kids’ art project.
CNN reports that Mrs. Trump will be launching an artwork-centered project, called “Building the Movement: America’s Youth Celebrate 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage,” for children to commemorate 100 years of women having the right to vote also known as the 19th Amendment. The project will include one piece of artwork from a selected student from every state and territory which will be on display at the White House. The artworks from students will fall in the age range of three to 12 years old, which will depict suffrage-related images.
“For decades, women leaders lobbied, marched, and protested for equality and their right to vote in the United States...It is my hope that this project will both support and expand the important conversations taking place on equality and the impact of peaceful protests while encouraging children to engage in the history behind this consequential movement in their home states” said Melania in a statement released by the White House. The first lady referenced the ongoing protests calling for an end to racism in the country, following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man at the hands of a white police officer.
Melania’s approach to the ongoing protests comes in as a stark contrast to her husband Donald Trump. Reports have also surfaced that her acknowledgment of these protests and promoting healing have somewhat clashed with the West Wing.
Meanwhile, June 14th was her husband’s birthday, yet, as reported by the Daily Mail, the first lady did not make a special shout out to Trump on social media. Trump spent his 74th birthday at New Jersey with his eldest daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump and his son-in-law and fellow adviser Jared Kushner.
While she did not publicly greet her husband on social media, she did retweet an anniversary message to celebrate the United States army. President Trump, on the other hand, retweeted a follower’s tweet sharing a photo of him dancing with Melania and a birthday message.
