Some notable first ladies of the United States have later become fashion icons during their time at the White House. Melania Trump is no different, especially since she was a fashion model. However, her fashion choices have also been sources of controversies.
The now-infamous Zara jacket would always come to mind in this aspect. But there is an interesting supposition that it might have been a message for Ivanka Trump.
Melania Trump wore Zara jacket for Ivanka Trump?
Aside from Melania Trump’s marriage to Donald Trump, her relationship with the President’s eldest daughter has also been a reappearing topic. Official and unofficial sources have maintained that there is no feud between two of the most powerful women in the Trump administration.
The book “Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography” by Melania Trump expert and CNN correspondent Kate Bennett touched on the women’s relationship behind the cameras. It was said that there is no bad blood between the Trump women, but Bennett reported that unforced circumstances sometimes arise that could get the women in competitive spirits at times.
The author said Melania Trump made efforts to convince her husband to end his zero-tolerance policy that caused family separations between children and their parents seeking asylum at the U.S. border. Ivanka Trump, on the other hand, was more visible in the media during and after the President signed an order to end the zero-tolerance policy.
Bennett added that the amount of credit the first daughter received versus what the first lady got might have fueled the latter’s out-of-character fashion choice that led to the inexpensive Zara jacket. It can be recalled that Melania Trump was seen wearing the jacket while boarding a plane to McAllen, Texas, to visit the children separated from their parents at the U.S. border.
What Melania Trump has said about the ‘I don’t care’ jacket
The first lady fully addressed issues surrounding the controversial jacket in October 2018 during an interview with ABC News. Melania Trump admitted that choosing it was intentional. However, it was not a dig on Ivanka Trump.
Melania Trump said at the time, “I wore the jacket to go on the plane and off the plane. And it was for the people and for the left-wing media to show them that I don’t care. You will not stop me to do what I feel is right.”
