Melania Trump received the Women of Distinction award from a small Florida Christian college this week. However, the decision to grant her with the recognition didn’t sit well with a lot of people.
During her speech, the FLOTUS talked about her Be Best initiative that is focused on anti-cyberbullying and the opioid crisis. According to the first lady, Be Best has been shining a light on programs across the country and overseas to help the youth understand what the phrase really means.
“Be Best can mean performing a simple act of kindness, providing care for someone in need, or teaching a life-enriching lesson,” she said.
However, a lot of people questioned why Melania was the recipient of the honorable award when her husband, Donald Trump, is a bully himself. A PBA graduate told The Hill that the FLOTUS’s initiative is laughable because she’s married to the biggest bully in the country.
Graysen Boehning, senior studying biology and zoology, told the publication that he isn’t convinced the first lady has done anything worthy of the recognition that she received.
“While many students were excited that the school was bringing in the first lady of the United States to speak, others felt that her character was not representative of the community of love for people of all backgrounds and beliefs that PBA houses and fosters,” he said.
Tyler Whitehead, the president of the school’s College Democrats group, called the decision displeasing and confusing.
“The vast majority of students and faculty that I have spoken to about the decision were disappointed by what seems to be a politically-motivated move on the university’s part,” he said.
Even though Trump didn’t criticize his wife’s efforts with her Be Best initiative, as well as her Women of Distinction award, the POTUS has not congratulated Melania on her win. In fact, he has stayed silent regarding the FLOTUS’s trip to Florida.
The president didn’t also try to debunk the claims that he’s one of the world’s biggest bullies.
