Michael Schumacher’s son Mick is following in his footsteps as a star racer. At 19, the teenager has sealed his first win in the F3 field at the Spa-Francorchamps, the same venue where his father won his first F1 race in 1992.
According to ESPN, Mick was able to overcome some daring overtakes to take his win from sixth on the grid. It was his first win in 45 attempts. He drove in wet conditions and bested his teammate Marcus Armstrong and opponent Robert Schvartzman.
The 19-year-old won in the European Formula 3 that was held in Belgium on July 29. The venue was Michael Schumacher’s favorite racetrack and it is was there that he claimed six of his wins in his entire racing career, thus it holds a special place in Mick’s heart and the Schumacher family.
As per Express, after the victory, Mick Schumacher shared memories about his racing legend father, who was forced to retire for good after suffering from a freak skiing accident in 2013. The teenager said that the racetrack brought back lots of happy memories.
“I have only good memories of Spa. As everybody knows, this is, let’s say, the living room of my dad, he said. “I really like and love racing here, because I know that he raced here as well. I’m always happy to be here and every year to come back here.”
Mick Schumacher said that his goal has always been F1 and it still is. He added that he is set to take the next step and he is looking forward to it.
In another news, Michael Schumacher’s health condition is still the focus of many racing fans. Despite pleas from the F1 champ’s family and friends for privacy, fans continue to demand for an update regarding their favorite motorsport icon’s health condition.
However, the Schumacher family has remained firm with their decision and they still keep information to themselves. Except for some of Schumi’s family, close friends and colleagues, no outsider has the exact detail about Michael Schumacher’s condition.
The latest info that can be shared as of now is that Michael Schumacher is “surrounded by his family.” This simple update was previously announced by French motorsports executive Jean Todt.
