Michael Schumacher is such a celebrated name in the racing world that even after he retired, he’s still being praised by those who wish to break his accomplishments. The German driver won seven Formula One championships, a feat that no one has matched yet.

However, it seems that this record will be broken a few years from now as Lewis Hamilton has now secured his fifth title. Hamilton is the third racer to ever win five Formula One championships and it’s expected that he’ll achieve more if he keeps racing, The Daily Express reported. Despite his recent accomplishments, the British driver still praised Michael Schumacher and said that the German legend will always be ahead of everyone.

“I’ve never, ever personally classified myself as the best,” Lewis Hamilton said. "Michael's [Schumacher] still quite far ahead in race wins so you can have to say he is still the GOAT [greatest of all time].”

Hamilton also gave a nod to Argentinian legend Juan Manuel Fangio, who also had five titles under his belt. The British racer said that his respect for Fangio will always be paramount since the Argentinian driver achieved his accomplishments at a time when the sport was perilous. As for the record of Michael Schumacher, Hamilton is expected to match the seven titles of the German racer by 2020 or 2021.

At 33 years of age, Lewis Hamilton still has the potential to reach or maybe even surpass Michael Schumacher’s coveted record. And with Mercedes and the rest of the team behind him, this possibility isn’t far from happening.

As for Michael Schumacher’s current health, the German legend is still recovering from the aftermath of his skiing accident almost five years ago. Details are scarce about the legend’s health as the family chose to keep the racer’s convalescence private.

The latest news regarding this is a supposed family member claiming that Michael Schumacher cries when he’s placed where he gets a panoramic view of the lake near his home. The contemporaries of the legend are rooting for him to pull through given the influence he has had on the motorsports world.
