Michael Schumacher is evidently missed by fans as well as former racing acquaintances. Recently, Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel revealed that if Schumie was in better health, he would like to discuss “Formula 1 politics” with him among other things.
Aside from being an F1 legend during his career, Schumacher is also considered a mentor by other active racing drivers such as Vettel. In a recent interview with the German magazine Sport Bild (via Planet F1), the Ferrari driver said, “If he was healthy, I would ask him about many things.”
However, Vettel clarified that driving techniques and strategies are the least of his concerns if he ever gets to talk to Schumacher. The 31-year-old racing driver said he would rather ask advice about “things that are behind the scenes.”
“Teamwork, Formula 1 politics,” Vettel cited. “[Michael Schumacher] has a lot of experience from his time with Ferrari.”
Meanwhile, other big names in the F1 world also weighed in on Vettel’s statements. Some said they understand why Vettel would love to hear Schumacher’s thoughts — specifically about the current state of the Ferrari team and how the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix turned out for them.
In a recent write-up for Unibet, Mika Häkkinen explained why Vettel yearns for advice from Schumacher after the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix. “Ferrari should really be leading this championship, but there have been too many mistakes, and some strange decisions,” Häkkinen explained.
The 2018 Singapore Grand Prix that took place last Sept. 16 served as the 15th round of this year’s F1 World Championship. Vettel and Ferrari barely made it to the podium with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) taking the first place win and Max Verstappen (Red Bull- TAG Heuer) finishing second. With six Grand Prix rounds left, Hamilton dominates by 40 points followed by Vettel in the leaderboard.
Michael Schumacher met a freak accident in 2013 while on a skiing trip with his family in the French Alps. Since then, fans and his friends have not heard directly from the seven-time F1 world champion. Recently, reports had it that he has made significant improvements in terms of his health recovery. But his family remains mum about the former racing driver’s current condition.
