Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently slammed Donald Trump after he refused to help provide equipment to the state amid the coronavirus crisis.
In her previous tweet, Whitmer revealed how the POTUS told her and the other governors that they should first try to buy their own equipment before looking to the federal government for help. The president’s remark did not sit well with the governor.
“To hear the leader of the federal government tell us to work around the federal government because it’s too slow – it’s kind of mind-boggling,” she said.
When Trump saw Whitmer’s comment, he took to social media to further attack the governor.
“Failing Michigan Governor must work harder and be much more proactive. We are pushing her to get the job done. I stand with Michigan!” he tweeted.
Whitmer replied to Trump by encouraging him to stop attacking her online.
“Now that I’ve got your attention, Mr. President – attack tweets won’t solve this crisis. But swift and clear guidance, tests, personal protective equipment, and resources would. FYI, that’s what I’ve done so far,” Whitmer replied.
Some Americans sided with Trump amid his online tirade against Whitmer, while others were convinced that it was right for the governor to put the president in his place.
“Translation: Michigan’s governor is a Democrat who’s doing a fantastic job,” Twitter user @funder said.
“@GovWhitmer is a goddamn American treasure and you are goddamn American trash. I can’t wait until @JoeBiden beats your sorry [expletive] in November. [Expletive] you and your whole [expletive] family for downplaying the severity of this pandemic for months. Seriously, [expletive] off,” Twitter user @AynRandPaulRyan said.
“@realDonaldTrump her store shelves are empty. She has nothing in the stores! People are running all over the place to get supplies. Governor, why don’t you take a ride to a store and check it out. This is your job, not the feds. Expectant moms need supplies!” Twitter user @maryfox73531980 said.
“I apologize to you that the president of the United States has the time to attack governors. I’ll just assume he’s jealous of how you and others are being proactive. Thank you!” Twitter user @gymnat545 said.
