PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most popular titles on Xbox One right now and it has plenty of controversy surrounding it already. However, on the marketing side, Microsoft is facing heat from gamers after it was accused of stealing an ad concept. The accuser complained about the incident on Reddit and it just blew up with good old fashioned gamer rage.
The user, in question, is "Macsterr" who provided images and comparisons of his own design as well as the one posted on the official Xbox Twitter account on Reddit, proving that Microsoft had ripped of his design, which he posted on November. Looking at both concepts, the similarities are unmistakable.
After the user posted his complaint on the forum site, the Tweet was quickly removed. The situation is now under investigation, according to a spokesperson from Microsoft who spoke to Business Insider.
With regards to what Macsterr wanted to get out of his complaint, the user told the publication that he wasn’t looking for financial gain. He was just looking for recognition and get the credit for the design that he argues was based on his original ad concept. Then again, if Microsoft has anything to offer, Macsterr said that he was open to whatever comes his way.
Despite the arguably civil attitude that Macsterr has displayed with regards to this incident, however, it already sparked the ire of gamers on Reddit. As EA and many other video game developers and publishers can attest to, once the flame is lit, the rage from the community can be difficult to put out.
In this case, Reddit users are absolutely lambasting Microsoft and the Xbox team for what they consider to be theft of the most despicable order. Macsterr himself says that he wasn’t expecting the kind of reaction and support that he is now getting.
