Microsoft Edge has transformed its store listings for iOS and Android users.
The once straightforward "Microsoft Edge" is now identified as "Microsoft Edge: AI browser." This alteration underscores Microsoft's commitment to integrate artificial intelligence seamlessly across its suite of services.
AI Features at Your Fingertips
While many browsers offer AI features, Microsoft Edge takes a step further by incorporating them directly.
According to Windows Central, a simple click on the bottom button of Edge unveils Copilot with Bing Chat, a feature-rich tool capable of executing various tasks and answering queries. Notably, users can even opt for the advanced GPT-4 over GPT-3.5.
Critics have debated Microsoft's decision to label Edge as an AI browser as they argue that it's a browser with AI features. Yet, the distinction is subtle.
AI is not confined to specific instances like opening Bing or a particular site. It's omnipresent, accessible at the tap of a button, with AI features seamlessly interacting with on-screen content, including article summaries.
Microsoft's AI Integration Journey
While Microsoft might have more AI features in the pipeline, Edge has already positioned itself as an AI browser.
Recent branding changes, such as renaming Bing Chat to Copilot with Bing Chat, signify a concerted effort to unify various Copilots. According to Neowin, this aligns with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's steadfast commitment to infuse AI into every facet of Microsoft's services.
As 2023 earned its reputation as the year of AI, major players like ChatGPT, Bing, and Google's Bard underscored the industry's mainstream adoption.
Microsoft's promise to enhance AI experiences extends beyond software, with Windows 12 poised to introduce even more AI features, building upon the groundwork laid by Copilot in Windows 11.
Hardware Evolution: NPUs on the Horizon
Looking to the hardware horizon, 2024 anticipates the arrival of NPUs (Neural Processing Units), specialized processors designed to streamline repetitive AI tasks.
This marks a significant leap in AI-powered computing. Anticipate a surge in laptops and devices featuring NPUs, a transformation driven by innovations like Intel Core Ultra processors and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite, embracing the era of dedicated AI processors.
