‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ dropped an extended television spot during the Teens choice awards ahead of its scheduled September release. It featured more footage of Eva Green and Asa Butterfield.
According to /Film, 20th Century Fox released an extended television spot featuring more footage of Eva Green’s Miss Peregrine, Asa Butterfield’s Jacob Portman, and Ella Purnell’s Emma Bloom during the recent Teens Choice Awards.
The new television spot posted on Comicbook.com dropped ahead of the film’s scheduled September 2016 release. The clip began with Emma diving to a shipwreck in the bottom of the ocean with Jacob trailing behind her, his head encased in a bubble to help him breathe underwater. Emma is seen using her powers to safely navigate the deep ocean. She then tells Jacob that she would show him more secrets if he promises not to cower.
In another clip, Miss Peregrine reveals that the children of the orphanage have been hunted down for the powers for centuries past. Samuel L. Jackson’s malevolent Barron is then seen coming out of the shadows. Jacob then understands that he was born to protect the magical children taken under Miss Peregrine’s care and is shown how he can harness his own abilities to fight evil.
Tim Burton’s live-action adaptation is based on Ransom Riggs’ 2011 novel of the same name. The original book tells the story of a boy discovering a strange and seemingly abandoned orphanage on a Welsh island following a family tragedy. He meets a mysterious woman named Miss Peregrine and is introduced to various children possessing strange yet powerful abilities.
He learns that the headmistress Miss Peregrine has been protecting them from dangerous creatures known as Wights and Hollowgasts who are out to hunt them down for their powers.
Upon the book’s release on June 2011, it quickly topped the New York Times best-seller list. Critics generally praised the book for its creative use of vintage photographs featuring images Riggs himself collected as well as good characterization and storytelling.
In addition to Green, Butterfield, Jackson and Purnell, the cast includes Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, and Dame Judi Dench.
In an interview featuring in the recently released featurette, Riggs expressed his enthusiasm while recalling Burton’s interest in turning his book into a full-feature film. In the video posted on Screen Crush, Riggs said, “When I heard that Tim Burton was gonna make the film, I was like, “What! This is insane!”
Green also spoke a little more about her character in the film. The 36-year old French actress said, “I play Miss Peregrine. She runs the home of the peculiar children.” Butterfield explains, “They go into hiding because they are hunted… Everything really comes together as a Tim Burton film.” Jackson adds, “His enthusiasm on set is infectious.”
‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film scheduled to premiere in the United States on September 30, 2016. It is directed by Tim Burton with a screenplay prepared by Jane Goldman. It is produced by Tim Burton Productions, Chernin Entertainment, Scope Pictures, and the St. Petersburg Clearwater Film Commission.
