Motorola released the first official teaser for an upcoming phone, where the company confirmed it would use a 200MP camera. But tech fans will have to wait until July to see the entirety of the device.
The company released a teaser on its official Weibo page earlier this week, confirming that it is gearing up to launch a new smartphone with a 200MP main camera. Motorola general manager Shen Jin also posted a teaser image on his page focused on the premium sensor, confirming that the device is slated to launch sometime in July. But the promos are only being shared through the Chinese social networking platform, they are likely indications that the July launch only pertains to the Chinese market.
Motorola is still keeping other details of the device under wraps. But technical specifications of the upcoming smartphone appeared to have been leaked by WinFuture last January. The publication reported that the company has been developing a phone codenamed “Frontier 22” with a 200MP camera as one of its key features.
The same report had image renders of the Motorola “Frontier 22,” which should give tech fans an idea of the size of the 200MP camera. The primary sensor will reportedly be accompanied by a 50MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto shutter with 2x zoom. For selfies, the device is rumored to offer a 60MP camera.
The upcoming Motorola phone is also expected to have a 6.67-inch P-OLED display with curved edges. The display will reportedly support up to 144Hz refresh rate, 20:9 aspect ratio, and FHD+ resolution. The “Frontier 22” is looking more likely to be a premium flagship offering from Motorola as it is also rumored to be powered by the recently announced Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip with a processing speed of up to 3.2GHz.
In an earlier Weibo post, Shen Jin shared an image to welcome Qualcomm’s announcement of its latest premium mobile platform. A machine translation of his post reveals that the Motorola general manager said the photo contains an “easter egg.” The image seems to feature a silhouette of a foldable display, which could then be a hint that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will power the upcoming Razr model as well.
