Good news, “Mr. Robot” fans! The multi-awarded USA Networks drama is set to return for its third season in October, and with a new face to boot.
Indiewire said Bobby Cannavale, whose TV credits include the HBO shows “Boardwalk Empire” and the short-lived “Vinyl,” will join the show as “Irving, a laconic, no-nonsense used car salesman.” There are no additional details about his role in Elliot Alderson’s (Rami Malek) or Mr. Robot’s (Christian Slater’s) lives or how Cannavale’s character will be introduced in Elliot’s world.
Deadline also said that BD Wong, who plays enigmatic transgender leader of the Chinese hacking org The Dark Army, Whiterose, has now been retained by the show as a series regular. Wong’s elevation might as well signaled his character’s importance in “Mr. Robot”’s storyline in Season 3.
Production for “Mr. Robot” Season 3 will start in April, and is expected to debut on the small screen in October. Deadline notes that the debut date is unusual, given the debut dates of the previous two seasons, which were both in July. Executive producer and writer Sam Esmail is tapped to direct all ten episodes for Season 3, TVLine added.
Although there’s no official synopsis released yet, Chris McCumber, President of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said in a statement about the upcoming season, “Sam is a true creative visionary who continues to deliver a series that boldly tackles timely issues and leans into the major headlines of the day. We’re eager to share the next phase of Elliot’s journey with fans this fall.”
