To say that Miami Heat and its center Hassan Whiteside have had a strained relationship would be an understatement. The tension between the team and the player has grown so much that the Heat has been trying to get rid of its embattled center. Unfortunately, it seems the high value of Hassan Whiteside makes it hard to trade him. The Heat is basically stuck with the toxic relationship now, but the team’s president still thinks that something can be done to fix the problem.
The Miami Heat organization is basically stuck between a rock and a hard place. It wants to get rid of Hassan Whiteside, who has been complaining a lot about the team and his role. At the same time, it doesn’t want to get a worse deal when it does finally trade him to another team. So now, Heat president Pat Riley is trying to salvage the relationship and prepare the team for next season, CBS Sports recently reported.
As the publication notes, the failure of the Heat to find a good deal for trading Hassan Whiteside stems from the fact that the team still puts a lot of value in him. This means that it would naturally want the terms of a trade to either be fair or to exceed what they think the center is worth. Unfortunately, no team seems to be interested enough to make a serious bid.
This is a problem for the team, which is becoming increasingly intolerant of the complaints from Hassan Whiteside. He has constantly been complaining about his minutes, Sporting News reports, which he blamed for struggling postseason.
Basically, if the Heat is not willing to trade the player for less than what the team thinks he is worth, Hassan Whiteside will remain in Miami. This spells trouble for the organization, especially since the team actually performed better without him during the regular season. His seeming indifference to results during games hasn’t been doing him any favors either.
