“Narcos: Mexico” season 2 will return as it proved it deserves another run. The series was originally intended to be the show’s season 4 but since the production team decided to feature the story that tells how the narcotics business started, the set moved from Colombia to Mexico where the illegal drug trade all began via the Guadalajara Cartel spearheaded by Felix Gallardo.
The rebranding of the series resulted in the retitling of “Narcos: Mexico” and it is now on its second season. The first installment showed how Felix Gallardo built his drug empire and how one undercover DEA agent named Kiki Camarena tirelessly pursued him to put a stop to his criminal deeds. Although the agent succeeded in destroying the plantation where the drugs were sourced, the ending was sad since he died.
“Narcos: Mexico” season 2 showrunner, Eric Newman, previously told The Hollywood Reporter, "Kiki Camarena is the first martyr in the drug war. The collision between [Kiki and Felix] became so immediately clear as the best path to get to jumpstarting the Mexican chapter of this story."
Now, what will be “Narcos: Mexico” season 2 plot when Kiki Camarena is already dead? It was reported that Scoot McNairy is replacing Michael Peña (Kiki) as the new DEA agent who will run after Felix Gallardo (Diego Luna). With his entrance as Walt Breslin, the war on drugs will continue on the second installment.
The next question about the plot is, will El Chapo be featured as the war on drugs ensues in “Narcos: Mexico” season 2? The Mexican drug lord played a minor character in the premiere season and it is possible that his character is being the slowly introduce for full integration later.
Lastly, as per Express, his appearance may show how he rose to prominence in the illegal drug trade and will probably reveal if he really worked for Felix Gallardo before making his own name in the dirty business. In the show, El Chapo was played by Alejandro Edda so he is likely to return but with longer lines and screen time in “Narcos: Mexico” season 2.
