Many gamers know NeoGAF as a cesspool of undesirables spewing their most intolerant and hateful rhetoric, as well as validating each other’s toxicity. The forum has long been an eye-sore to the gaming community and its owner is now facing allegations of sexual assault. This has happened several times before, but thanks to fleeing moderators and community backlash, NeoGAF could finally close.
The owner of NeoGAF is Tyler Malka and he has been accused of sexually assaulting people several times before, Comicbook.com reports. These include cases of grabbing women without asking for their consent, with Malka reportedly even boasting about such situations.
With this newest case, it would seem that the owner of the forum site has decided that it would be better to remove all traces of conversations about his criminal activities. His actions have gotten so offensive and obviously immoral that even his own moderators have had enough.
As for what started this event, it would seem that it stemmed from a Facebook post of the accuser, detailing how Malka allegedly acted with illicit intent during a trip to New Orleans. Of course, anyone can accuse anybody of anything on the internet, which is why further investigation was necessary. This is where one forum user stepped in.
Posting on a thread, the user detailed how the same revelations occurred in a private conversation that included the accuser and the accused. Apparently, everything that the victim revealed was true and the only reason that it took so long for the details to come out was because of concerns of privacy and retaliation.
“She doesn't deserve to get doxxed and harassed by the internet mob if she's not ready for it, and it's solely for that reason that I didn't want this getting out there, which is why I regret sharing that shot in that group convo,” the user noted.
After all the details were revealed, there was an upheaval in NeoGAF with many threads getting deleted, users getting banned, Facebook posts being taken down, and Malka going ballistic. Now, famous moderators are jumping ship and the site itself was shut down for a time.
