Nestlé has been continuously expanding its presence in the plant-based business in the United States. The Swiss food manufacturing giant first entered the alternative food biz in 2017 when it acquired Sweet Earth, and it has been releasing various products since then.
As per Food Dive, Nestlé’s latest offering is a milk alternative item, and it was launched through its Natural Bliss brand. This is the company’s newest innovation for its plant-based line, and it is unique because it was made by combining oat and fava, thus, the new item offers high nutritional value.
With the blending of the said two ingredients, the milk alternative offers five grams of protein per serving and all the amino acids required for the daily diet. As for the taste, it was described to be mild and nutty with the smooth texture of the oat and fava. The end result is a beverage that can be consumed on its own or blended with cereal or in a smoothie.
"Fava beans are a great source of protein, which is why we are exploring their use in different types of plant-based alternatives,” the head of the Nestlé Institute of Food Sciences, Christoph Bolten, said in a press release. “While developing the product, we selected the fava bean variety, that would bring the most complete nutritional elements to the recipe."
Nestlé USA’s president of beverage, Daniel Jhung, further said, "As interest in plant-based beverages continues to rise, we are thrilled to expand our natural bliss portfolio beyond the creamer aisle to introduce our first-ever ready-to-drink Oat Milk.”
He added, “We know our consumers seek products that are both delicious and nutritious, and this offering delivers with a first-to-market blend of oat and fava bean protein that offers more protein than the leading oat milk brand, less sugar than dairy milk, and can be enjoyed in several ways, at any time of day."
