Nestle's KitKat unveiled its new dark chocolate bar, effectively expanding its current range of options. The chocolate-covered wafer bar confection brand described the new product as a "truly indulgent experience" that will be offered to fans and customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Expanded KitKat Range in the UK and Ireland
UK's Braintree & Witham Times reported that this addition to KitKat's product lineup will introduce a chocolate bar that is 70% dark. This cocoa chocolate is combined with the brand's trademark four-finger crispy wafer to create a smooth, dark fusion that is sweet and bitter at the same time.
While Nestle is already selling the dark variant of KitKat in other countries, this is said to be the first time it is launching a version with a higher percentage of cocoa bean content, which means it tastes more bitter. This new item will be exclusively sold at Sainsbury's stores across the territory for a limited time.
Nestle and KitKat's Accelerator Program
The KitKat 70% Dark Chocolate is not just a new variant in the UK and Ireland market. Still, it is also the first product KitKat and Nestlé Confectionery made under its cocoa income accelerator program, which aims to improve the livelihoods of cocoa communities, farmers, and their families.
The dark chocolate used in KitKat's 70% Dark Chocolate production was sourced from families registered in the company's program. Moreover, Nestle hopes that sourcing cocoa from these farmers can help promote regenerative agriculture practices that protect, conserve, and restore natural resources for future generations.
"The introduction of KitKat 70% Dark to our range of iconic chocolate bars is a great way to kick off the new year," Nestlé UK & Ireland's KitKat brand manager, Hannah Boyle, said in a press release. "The combination of our signature crispy wafer and the rich, smooth dark chocolate creates a truly indulgent experience that we're confident chocolate fans will love."
She added, "And while the bar is delicious, we are also proud of how it has been made - with cocoa mass-sourced from families enrolled in the income accelerator program."
