It may have taken a while, but the wait is finally over for the arrival of the official Nintendo Switch stylus – at least for gamers in the United Kingdom. The video game company is now selling the highly requested console accessory and at a reasonable price, too.
Nintendo Switch stylus price and game compatibility
Nintendo Switch is built with a capacitive touchscreen since it launched in March 2017. However, it is not surprising that it took almost three years before Nintendo made a stylus for the console. There have not been many games released since 2017 that require the use of a stylus.
The need for having the pen device only became seemingly significant when “Super Mario Maker 2” was released last year. When the Nintendo Switch is undocked, players can only play the game by navigating through the touchscreen. This also explains why it was a good marketing idea to offer an exclusive stylus as part of the “Super Mario Maker 2” pre-order bundle.
What changed now is that Nintendo Switch owners can buy the stylus separately for only £6.99 or about $9. The Switch pen can only be used when the console is on handheld mode.
Nintendo Switch stylus: Will it be released in North America and other regions in the future?
The stylus that came with the “Super Mario Maker 2” was clearly designed exclusively for the game. The Switch peripheral device that Nintendo launched last Jan. 3 has a generic design with only the video game company’s logo stamped on it. However, its launch was still strategically set to coincide with the release of “Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training for Nintendo Switch.”
Since the said game has yet to have a North America release date, it might be the explanation of why the stylus is also limited to the Nintendo UK store. “Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training for Nintendo Switch” features a wide array of brain exercises were some activities require Switch users to answer by writing on to the screen with the stylus. Other games in it can be played with the Joy-Con sensors.
The likelihood for Nintendo to release the Switch stylus outside the UK remains. However, it might only happen when another that requires the use of the device will be launched in North America and other territories.
