Nongshim Co., South Korea's premier instant noodle maker, has announced its plans to potentially establish a new domestic manufacturing facility dedicated solely to exports. This move comes in response to the surging international appetite for its ramyeon products.
According to Kurea Bizwiire, the company is considering the southeastern port city of Busan or Pyeongtaek, located 60 kilometers south of Seoul, as a possible site for this plant. This initiative aims to bolster the supply of its noodles to meet the growing demands in Europe and Asia.
Global Operations and Expansion
Nongshim currently operates a dozen manufacturing plants worldwide, six of which are located domestically and six abroad, including two in the United States and four in China. A plan to expand the second facility this October is underway, particularly in the U.S., where its Los Angeles-based No. 1 and No. 2 ramyeon plants are situated.
Yonhap News reported that this expansion is a strategic move to cater to the increasing local demand for its cup noodle products. However, details regarding the investment size and the specific timeline for the new domestic facility's construction remain undisclosed.
A Diverse Product Portfolio on the Global Stage
Nongshim's flagship products, such as Shin Ramyun, Chapagetti, and Neoguri, have carved out a significant presence in the global market. To further penetrate the European sector, the company plans to introduce additional products like Neoguri and Soon veggie noodles in France's leading retail chains, E.Leclerc and Carrefour, starting in June.
This venture is part of Nongshim's broader strategy to expand its global production capacity and explore new European markets, including potential forays into Spain, Italy, Poland, and Romania, in collaboration with Carrefour.
This ambitious expansion reflects Nongshim's commitment to meeting the international demand for Korean ramyeon, leveraging its strategic locations and diverse product lineup to reach a wider global audience.
