Carl Pei’s latest venture since leaving OnePlus was to establish a new company called Nothing, and it has finally unveiled its first smartphone by the name of Nothing Phone 1. While the device has been making headlines over the previous months, it is understandable that the first flagship phone will not ship to the United States. But it is now confirmed to be available in more than 20 countries.
Nothing Phone 1 release date, global availability
Tech fans in London can purchase the Nothing Phone 1 early on July 16-20 at the Nothing Kiosk in Covent Garden. The company, however, notes that units will be available in a limited quantity per day. Those who will not be able to purchase the device on these dates will have to return on July 21 once the open sales begin. More details on how to find the Nothing Kiosk are provided in this blog post.
Nothing will also have limited drops with partner stores in other parts of the world before the open sales, including in Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, and Thailand. Customers in other regions will have to wait until July 21 to buy the Nothing Phone 1.
Aside from the places listed above, the device will also be available in Denmark, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. The same blog post has links to the retail stores (online and in-store) that will offer the Nothing Phone 1.
Nothing Phone 1’s highlight feature is the Glyph Interface
Nothing revealed the phone’s design way ahead of its launch through an in-depth video from YouTuber Marques Brownlee. At the time, it was made clear that the Nothing Phone 1 will be unlike most smartphones primarily because it features strips of lights on its back that the company calls the Glyph Interface.
Aside from making the device look futuristic and stylish, the Glyph Interface also has several functions and seems to be one of its main selling points. It lights up when the user receives a notification or when the device is charging wired or wirelessly. It can also serve as a built-in light filler when taking photos with the rear-facing cameras composed of two 50MP Sony IMX766 and Samsung JN1 sensors.
The Nothing Phone 1 sports a 6.55-inch OLED display with 2400 x 1080 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Snapdragon 778G+ and will be available with configurations starting at 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. There is a 16MP selfie camera, and the device has a 4500mAh battery that supports up to 33W wired, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse charging rates. The base model will cost £399 in the United Kingdom.
