After unveiling its first-ever foldable smartphone last December, Oppo is breaking into another mobile device category with the announcement of its first tablet. The new product is officially called Oppo Pad, but it is only currently available in China.
The Oppo Pad adds to the list of semi-premium Android tablets as it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. The chipset uses the Adreno 650 GPU and the octa-core Kryo 585 processor, which Qualcomm advertises with a clocked speed of up to 3.2GHz.
The company also confirmed that the Oppo Pad supports an array of accessories that makes the tablet worth considering, whether for personal or professional use. It supports the Oppo Pencil that functions with a 240Hz sampling rate, 360-degree incognito touch, and 4096-level pressure. The stylus can also be wirelessly charged when magnetically docked on the tablet. Oppo has also introduced a foldable smart keyboard.
Oppo Pad sports an 11-inch LTPS LCD with 2560 x 1600 pixels, 120Hz refresh rate, and 120Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports up to 480 nits brightness and is HDR10-certified.
RAM configurations available for Oppo Pad 6GB and 8GB, along with 128GB and 256GB storage options. Oppo Pad runs on the new ColorOS Pad skin based on ColorOS 12. It is unclear if the device will later support the Android 12L operating system.
While the Snapdragon 870 supports 5G connectivity, the official webpage for Oppo Pad does not mention a cellular connection. But the tablet supports Wi-Fi 6 connections. It comes with an 8360mAh battery with up to 33W fast charging. Oppo says the tablet’s battery life can last up to 18 hours of “continuous WPS file processing,” 9 hours of video conference calls, and 16.5 hours of video playback.
Similar to other Android tablets, the Oppo Pad camera does not have the same massive specs as the company’s high-end phones. The Oppo Pad features a 13MP rear-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and an 8MP selfie camera.
As mentioned, Oppo has yet to confirm if the Oppo Pad will launch outside China. The tablet’s retail launch in the country is set for March 3, with the price starting at CNY 2,299 (~$364).
