‘Orphan Black’ season 4, episode 8 will follow Cosima and Sarah as they struggle to set things right again following their self-destructive behavior in the preceding episode. It is entitled “The Redesign of Natural Objects”.
The synopsis released by BBC America and posted on Comic Book Movie read, “As Alison is terrified by Neolution threats made against Donnie, Sarah and Mrs. S question her loyalty to her sestras. While Sarah is distracted, Siobhan sneaks out to seek vengeance. Meanwhile, Cosima and Susan Duncan work together in a final attempt to discover a cure.”
The teaser suggested that the incoming episode is set to get more intense as Cosima (Tatiana Maslany) continues to struggle with Kendall Malone’s (Alison Steadman) untimely death, which resulted to several repercussions.
Without Kendall, hope of harvesting genetic material for the purpose of creating more human clones or finding a Leda cure are suddenly crushed. Cosima and Sarah are well aware that their actions of exchanging Kendall to save themselves led to Kendall’s eventual demise. Episode 8 will follow Cosima as she forms an unlikely alliance with Susan (Rosemary Dunsmore) in desperate attempts to find a cure as this may be their last chance.
Meanwhile, the events in the preceding episode, “The Antisocialism of Sex", emphasized Sarah and Cosima’s self-harming tendencies as a result of their deep guilt over Kendall’s death.
According to Entertainment Weekly, co-creator John Fawcett said, “Sarah is feeling a lot of guilt and taking the brunt end of her mother’s grief and anger… It really is a remarkable episode for us. It is a little atypical for Orphan Black and that’s what I love about it so much. It really is a brooding character meditation.”
Cosima, on the other hand, locked herself in a room and attempted to insert a tech bot into her face even if it meant suicide. Fawcett said, “In this moment, Cosima feels a lot of guilt. She was there when all this went down. And frankly, they have lost everything. And this is a little bit about not just her own guilt, but her own mortality. It also feels a little bit suicidal. It feels self-destructive in the same way Sarah is.”
Fawcett also expressed his admiration for the character Felix (Jordan Gavaris) after he proved to be the season’s newest hero. He said, “It really feels like he saves Sarah. He’s there for Cosima. He really does an incredible job of saving everyone. I really feel like he’s the hero in this episode.”
‘Orphan Black’ season 4, episode 8 is set to air on BBC America on June 2, 2016.
