It seems video game developers are now acquiring the habit of releasing ports of their games to other systems without telling anyone. The latest example of this is the port of the psychological survival game Outlast into the Nintendo Switch, which became available without any fanfare. It just showed up out of nowhere and now, gamers can freak themselves out while on the move.
To be fair, the game’s publisher, Red Barrels did announce last year that they were planning on bringing the game to the Switch. As for when this was actually going to happen, they would only confirm that it was around the first quarter of 2018, Polygon reports.
Normally, publishers would announce the exact date of when their games would become available weeks or even months ahead of the release. This wasn’t the case with Outlast, which is probably in keeping with its theme. The title is known for its jump scares that make even the toughest of gamers scream.
The version of the game that is available on the Switch is called the Outlast: Bundle of Terror because it contains both the base game and the Whistleblower DLC, which acts as a prequel to the story, Eurogamer reports. Anyone who is a fan of wetting their underwear will likely find this title both engrossing and addictive.
The original game was released all the way back in 2013 and set itself apart from most other horror titles by basically making the main character absolutely powerless. Armed only with a camera, he must confront horrors in a mental asylum and survive.
It’s a psychological horror game that is tailor-made for those who are less into the more action-packed adventures of recent Resident Evil games and want something closer to Siren or Silent Hill. With the Switch version, this is now an experience that can be brought anywhere.
