The production and release date of “Overlord” season 4 is possibly one of the biggest unanswered questions in the anime industry this year. However, to help make the waiting game a little less dreadful, Ainz Ooal Gown is coming back on the small screen in the upcoming weeks.
'Overlord' season 4 production still uncertain, but Ainz's return on the air is confirmed
Despite the lack of solid clues, some fans were still hoping to hear some news about the making of “Overlord” season 4. The latest season of the series concluded last October 2018, making its hiatus running for more than a year now.
Fans looking forward to “Overlord” season 4 may have found a good way to wait for Ainz’s return with the debut of the “Isekai Quartet" earlier this year. It is a chibi-style crossover series among four Isekai light novel titles being published by Kadokawa Corporation.
Luckily, the second season of “Isekai Quartet” is confirmed to premiere on Jan. 14, 2020, that will provide another good way to distract fans from waiting for the new "Overlord" episodes. "Isekai Quartet" season 2 will still feature characters from “Overlord,” “KonoSuba,” “Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World,” “The Saga of Tanya the Evil,” and the latest addition “The Rising of the Shield Hero.” Despite adding a fifth title, the crossover chibi series does not seem to change its name
The first season of “Isekai Quartet” featured a non-canon story, and it is very likely the same case for its second installment. Monsters & Critics pointed out, however, that some of the previous episodes also contained clues about upcoming anime adaptations. So there is a possibility that the special crossover series could have some references to the production of “Overlord” season 4.
'Overlord' season 4 plot: What is Ainz up to next?
What happens next to Ainz in “Overlord” season 4 is far from being cute. He will immediately face difficulties in running his newly established nation called the Sorcerer Kingdom. Apart from overcoming his weaknesses as a policy-maker, Ainz is also going to take a special interest in changing the everyday tasks of Adventurers. He wants them to live out their job titles − exploring the unknown − and not be limited to being mercenaries going after monsters.
