It seems PUBG Corp. has finally decided to take Fortnite seriously with the release of its own mobile game. Epic Games’ own take on the Battle Royale formula has been absolutely overshadowing the title that made the format popular, in the first place. In an effort to gain back some ground, the company has decided to stake its claim on the mobile space as well.
Right now, PUBG Mobile has one advantage over Fortnite and this is its availability. The latter is currently in invitation-only mode and this limits its scope, somewhat. PUBG Mobile is also free, Digital Trends reports, which makes it considerably more appealing than its PC or console counterpart to those who can’t afford to pay.
On the other hand, it’s worth pointing out that the players who are on the Fortnite mobile right appear to be spending a lot of money, making it skyrocket to the top of the charts in terms of revenue performance. Perhaps PUBG Corp. is hoping to see the same kind of spending on its own mobile game.
In any case, PUBG Mobile is not the same game as what Tencent is currently trying to peddle. It’s basically a port of the original version that runs on Unreal Engine 4 and still features the 100-player mode that gamers have come to love.
Instead of keyboard and mouse or controllers, however, the interface is strictly touchscreen. This can make things rather difficult, especially when it comes to aiming.
Then again, as mobile games go, feedback for PUBG Mobile has been relatively positive. As Ars Technica notes, the game performs quite well and that’s saying something considering that this is PUBG. Even on more powerful platforms, the game still glitches out.
One of the best changes made to the mobile version, however, is how it automates some of the tasks that players would normally have to do. Among them is automatically picking up ammunition and superior gear.
