The Pacquiao vs Thurman is the Filipino champion’s next and likely final fight, and things are already heating up in the lead up to the event. To start with, Thurman is saying that his opponent has predictable tactics and he will take advantage of that. On that note, it would seem that promoter Bob Arum is worried that his former subject of promotion might suffer brain damage at this rate.
In a recent event featuring the Pacquiao vs Thurman match, Thurman provided some insights into how he is seeing his upcoming fight to turn out, Bad Left Hook reports. It would appear that he is quite confident in the outcome.
“For me his boxing tactics are predictable. He fights in spurts and you have to take advantage of that. You have to be respectful of his power,” Thurman said. “But I believe my movement, athleticism and ring knowledge will be able to present him something he’s not seen in all his years of boxing.”
Aside from the supposed predictability of his tactics, however, the upcoming Pacquiao vs Thurman fight does come with the issue of the Filipino’s age. This is the point that Bob Arum is worried about, which is he explained recently.
“I wish him the best and I hope he wins the fight, but I am concerned, as I would be for any fighter, that when they get to a certain age that they probably should be fighting anymore. The doctors will tell you that the cranium as you get older, thins out,” the promoter said.
“So a guy that’s younger gets hit and the cranium absorbs the blow so that it doesn’t affect the brain matter. When they get older the cranium is thinner, and when you get hit it affects. That would be the worst thing in the world if Manny Pacquiao suffered brain damage at this point.”
