Peacock and Amazon Prime Video have been awarded exclusive National Football League games streaming rights. This allows the over-the-top video streaming service firms to broadcast two of the leagues' high-profile matches.
Updated Distribution Agreements
According to Reuters, Peacock will stream the NFL's Week 1 game as part of its new media distribution agreements for the 2024 season. On the other hand, Amazon Prime Video will be the sole streamer of this season's NFL Wild Card game.
This will be Amazon's OTT streaming service's second time to broadcast an NFL playoff game exclusively. Fans should take note that the Week 1 game will start the regular 2024 season on Friday, Sept. 6, in São Paulo, Brazil.
Free Streaming for Fans
ESPN mentioned that the Week 1 Brazil game on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video's NFL wildcard game are free to stream. It is accessible on broadcast TV in the respective local markets of the competing teams and on the NFL+ app. The NFL streams for these game events are free under the long-standing league policy.
"As media consumption habits evolve, the NFL continues to work with our partners to put our games on digital platforms where our fans are increasingly spending their time," NFL's executive vice president of media distribution, Hans Schroeder, said in the announcement. "The viewership success of both Thursday Night Football on Prime Video and the historic Wild Card game on Peacock last season are strong indicators our streaming distribution is resonating with our fans."
NBC Sports' president, Rick Cordella, also said, "It is exciting for Peacock to exclusively showcase the NFL's first-ever regular season game in Brazil as part of NBC Sports' unprecedented presentation of three primetime games on the NFL's opening weekend."
