Tis the season of reboots! Another television series favorite is set to return to the small screen as a movie installment.
According to Variety, Dule Hill and James Roday will reprise their roles as Burton "Gus" Guster and fake psychic Shawn Spencer in a two-hour holiday special made-for-TV movie for “Psych.” The upcoming movie will mark the series return ever since it aired the last of its over 120 episodes in spring 2014. They will subsequently be joined by Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen and Kirsten Nelson.
Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks, at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment said, “”Psych” is a beloved part of our USA family, and what better time to reunite with family than the holidays? Steve and James have taken the unique brand of comedy that the series honed over eight seasons and packed it into a two-hour movie that successfully rekindles one of the greatest bromances in television history.”
UCP president Jeff Wachtel, whose company will produce the special, added, “Psych has an absolutely phenomenal and constantly refreshing fan base. Steve, James, Dulé and the rest of the gang are all returning for a delightful holiday movie that will not – nay, dare not – disappoint!”
Deadline said the movie will pick up three years after the events of the series finale. The gang, which includes Lassiter (Omundson), Juliet (Lawson), Henry (Bernsen) and Chief Vick (Nelson) will all reunite to find out who the mystery assailant is after the latter targets one of their own.
"Psych" creator Steve Franks will direct the movie special, and will share writing credits with Roday, CBS said. Although production will begin on May 24, there release date has yet to be revealed.
