In an unprecedented move, Puma will become the official match ball supplier and technical sponsor for Liga Portugal from the 2023–24 season onwards. Replacing Danish company Select Sport, Puma's ascension cements its aggressive global football strategy, following recent sponsorships with LaLiga and Serie A.
Puma will replace the Danish company Select Sport as Liga Portugal's official match-ball supplier and technical sponsor. It will stand in line as a secondary official sponsor of the group alongside EuroBic and Vito.
But the partnership doesn't stop there. Liga Portugal and Puma have big plans to work together on exciting marketing campaigns, memorable events, and unforgettable brand activations - all with the football fan in mind. This announcement follows hot on the heels of Puma's recent sponsorship of LaLiga and Serie A and is part of the company's strategy to make its mark on the global football scene.
The negotiations for this deal were already completed in 2022, but it was made official at a ceremony hosted at Liga Portugal, attended by Pedro Proença, the president of Liga Portugal, and Javier Ortega, the general director of Puma for Southern Europe. With this partnership brewing, it remains to be seen how Puma elevates Liga Portugal's footprint in the global sports arena.
It was earlier announced that Puma will replace Nike as the Portugal national football team's official jersey sponsor starting in January 2025. As a result, Portugal will don Nike uniforms for the Euro 2024 but Puma uniforms for the World Cup in 2026 and upcoming competitions.
Nike, the Portuguese team's preferred sports brand since 1997, has been unable to compete with Puma's alluring offer. Given that Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned Portuguese player who still captains the squad under Roberto Martnez, has been wearing Nike apparel, this rupture in their long-standing alliance is noteworthy.
